A small horse breed from the Kazakh Autonomous Region of Barkol (or Balikun) in Xinjiang, in China. Perfectly adapted to its environment of steppes, it is used for the saddle, the pack and the light draft work. Belonging to the native breeds of China, it is noted for its great genetic diversity, the result of its traditional breeding in an open environment.
