Trussardi loves to show off. He's such a "pretty boy" and he loves to dance and to receive kudos. That's why we chose this particular music - because he can show off his bouncy moves and it fits his "i am so pretty and i know it. Look at me dancing through the arena" attitude.

Jassirah loves to show off her flowing trot and it always reminds us of the flowing rythm of a waltz. That's why we chose this music for her

    When I go
    Into that ground
    -
It smells of pine, years-old dust, and horse.
    -
    I won't go quietly
    I'm bringin' my crown
    -
The halter slips off his great head with a hushed click of the buckle.
A snorted whuff of his breath stirs the air.
    He moves.
    -
    And when I go
    Into that ground
    -
The sound of his hoof falls echoes hollow against the walls.
The black of his coat shimmers and dulls as he slips between pockets of light, muscles taut.
    -
    Oh, they gotta bury me

Stick monster, he’d heard them call her.

Nikolaj looked at his mare, standing, waiting. Slim and sleek; a horse hewn from stone, smoothed into a flawless form. Her dark parts, jasper, reddish tones, garnet; the dapples of her belly and neck, copper, and amber, and gold dust.

    Gold dust, and desert sands.

Qora wasn’t his his. The subject of her true owner was a closely guarded secret, one which kept stable gossips murmuring and sent authority figures scurrying. Among abounding rumours were that she belonged to a friend of Victor Foskett himself, one of even greater wealth and power than he. A Russian oligarch, soon to be bankrupt, who wanted to hide his most precious possessions. Middle Eastern royalty, desiring to keep a worthy horse in the States, just in case they paid a visit. A celebrity with more secret fascinations than time or concept of responsibility. A gift to one of his highroller friends, from the Turkmen president himself.

    Nikolaj didn’t know.

He paced slowly onto the curve of a large circle, gaze fixed in the sand.

    Stick monster.

He glanced back at Qora. Standing, waiting, watching with her ears. He could see her eyes in the low light, following him. Blue eyes, like turquoise, like ocean shallows, like the shimmering wings of the Morpho butterflies in Brazil.

Unearthly blue, glowing in the dust and dim

How did people not find her beautiful?

Nikolaj had neither experience nor particular interest in liberty.
Vengeance, however, was another matter entirely. And today, with this routine, in front of this crowd-

    He
    (and Qora)
    would prove

    all

    them

    wrong.

What a strange name for such a 'full-of-himself' kind of guy.

Idly slipping fingers around a buckle of Ego's bridle, a final adjustment was made to ensure the perfect fit with the casual nature of an experienced equestrian. The striking stud simply stood still, not moving an inch as his trusted compatriot tweaked something, Luke finally dropping his hand back atop his other once he was satisfied. It was back, then, to sit on the uncomfortable bench provided, to wait for their name to be called. The thumb of his opposite hand fiddled with the plain golden band around his ring finger.

    alt text

"You'll do fine," She had chided earlier, with the wicked smile that still managed to turn his legs to gelatin, "You're just the same as him. He'll get it." Something about the way that his wife had so casually compared him to a horse felt just a little demeaning, but, he supposed, if there was any horse on the planet to be compared to, it might as well have been MSE Fragile Ego. He was, after all, at least in Luke's mind, the pinnacle of his breed. Maybe of his species.

    And yet that name persisted.

    alt text

Surely some chortled at it behind the pair's back. It was just so perfectly worded, cynically dubbed, and Luke naturally only had one fiendish individual to blame for all the times judges paused in reading scorecards and fellow riders hid amused looks behind snowy gloves when they heard; though he tread carefully in those dark waters of criticism, dark benefactors not to have their toes stepped on lightly. Still. There were classier choices, weren't there? It certainly didn't help that Liberty wasn't something he practised, at least, not seriously. Ego was a sporthorse, no dancer, but he did make an art form of arenas similar to the one before them, so maybe this one wouldn't be that different after all.

    alt text

The stud seemed to be in agreement; there was something in that big brown eye that gave Luke enough strength to go on with this charade. Almost enchanted as he had been from the first time he had laid eyes on the barely-contained creature who had emerged from a trailer years ago, the helpless owner of Dapper Fellow Fields looked up to the powerful being that stood only a foot away, linked to him by mere twists of leather. That, in and of itself, seemed unlikely. Their names was called with only the slightest hesitation, boots and hooves moved in tandem. Sunlight met the pair, and Luke stole a glance to his companion. And that, that simple, single look, was what birthed his epiphany.

    alt text

'Fragile Ego', he now understood, was not a name to refer to this stallion's personality. No. He was named for the way other horses broke confidence with their single wayward glance in his direction, the way he turned their hopes to dust upon realizing the inequity. The way that their trainers turned a shade paler upon spotting his amalgamation of patterns and aesthetics, the grandeur he commanded. All those in the showing ring who would have snarked his name turned silent like the grave at his apparition, the diminutive human beside him dwarfed by presence alone. This, undoubtedly, was an alpha among his pack.

Woe, Luke thought, to those who turned their back.

    alt text

He let that devil fly on his broken wings.

Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
Do you know where the wild things go
They go along to take your honey, la la la la
